All the boxes are colour coordinated and contains colourant, developer and shine tonic along with a pair of gloves and instruction leaflet. Shine tonic is the USP of this hair colour as most of the brands do not even provide a third tube and those who do provide they include conditioner in the packaging. My mom has been using hair color for over 10-12 years now, and over this long period of time I have seen her hair grown dull. I am not sure what gave that rough touch to the hair but when I saw a shine tonic in this box my expectations bumped up few notches as I really want to restore the shine in her hair.
Well, developer and shine tonic tubes are made of plastic that makes them easy to handle. The colourant tube is metallic so needs to be squeezed cautiously especially in winter season. For usage, as we were using this hair colour for the first time so we did conduct a skin hypersensitivity test – which was to apply a small quantity of the mixture of colourant, developer and shine tonic on the forearm. We let if set for 20 minutes before washing off and then observed the reaction for 48 hours. Fortunately, there was no adverse effect so 48 hours we went ahead with the application on hair.
There are two ways to apply this hair color- all over colour and root touch-up. For the all over colour, squeeze the entire content of the three tubes into a non-metallic bowl and mix them well using a hair colouring brush. When the mixture is creamy and smooth apply it from roots till the ends. If you have medium or shoulder length hair with average density the quantity of one box will be sufficient for one time usage. But for long and thick hair you might need to use more than one box. For the root touch-up, the tubes are already marked to make the application convenient. Mix 25g of the colourant, 25g of developer and 4ml of shine tonic into a non-metallic bowl. Mix them well and start applying from roots till you have grey hair. For my mom we followed this approach but applied hair colour till half of hair-length. We let the colour sit for 30 minutes and then rinsed the hair thoroughly with water till the water ran clear. Though in the instruction leaflet it is recommended to follow rinsing with shampoo and conditioner but we did not do that as my mom feels doing so reduces the coverage.
I definitely loved the difference it brought to the texture of mom’s hair. As I already said her hair is quite dry so after using this colour her hair was shinier and softer. I could easily see visible difference in the quality of her hair. Even the coverage was great as I could hardly see any grey hair. The good thing was it did not cause any itchiness on her scalp unlike some other hair colours. As far as the lasting ability is concerned, I think the 8 weeks lasting claim is true if you do not have grey hair or have very few of them. But if you have good volume of grey hair or your hair growth is very progressive you would definitely need to apply it after 3-4 weeks.
