Benefits and Uses of Vaseline Petroleum Jelly
Hi Friends,
It has been a long time since I have written anything on beauty. Actually, after my last write-up I started observing some of the very usual skin care products that lay around unnoticed in 90 % of homes. Frequently, we would have come across those particular products in our lives and used them many times without knowing their actual benefits or even trying to use them differently. One of those useful products is “Petroleum Jelly”. I do not remember when did I see it first but I am sure it has been right there all the time since I started walking and hurting myself by bumping into hardwood furniture. I am sure even my grandmother must have had her share of it.
You will find different petroleum jellies from different brands but for me Vaseline petroleum jelly is THE petroleum jelly and vice versa. I hope you get what I mean to say  . Irrespective of the weather I use it all the time, especially in winters for dry lips and dry skin. Unfortunately, until a couple of months back I did not notice or even try to thought over the numerous magical effects of Vaseline petroleum jelly for other skin related problems. So in today’s post I will share with you a couple of miraculous benefits of petroleum jelly. If you know any other benefits please do share it with us.
Cracked Heels-
The most dramatic benefit I have experienced with Vaseline Petroleum Jelly is on cracked heels. Last winter my heels were in a pretty painful condition; they were insanely cracked and sore, and made my feet look terrible. I used a lot of foot creams that promised fast healing and super-fast relief from pain of cracked heels but unfortunately all failed  . So disappointed from every foot cream I bought, I finally started using the one which lay in my drawer overlooked i.e. Vaseline Petroleum Jelly. It is cheap, effective (I did not know at that time) and easily available. When I applied Vaseline petroleum jelly the very first time, I thoroughly cleansed my feet with an ordinary soap and water (no scrubbing) and then gently massaged it, focusing on cracked heels. The next morning when I woke up, I won’t say I had beautiful feet without cracks, but yes I would say I had healthier feet with healthier skin. And then from next day onwards, before going to bed, I regularly started washing my feet, scrubbing them and then applying petroleum jelly. After ten days my cracked heels were completely cured, and my feet were glowing healthy. This was a miracle for me that no other foot cream could do even in 1 month, forget about 10 days.
Dry Lips-
Petroleum jelly (or Vaseline :good: ) is the only product you can trust for sure to use freely on the most delicate part “Lips”. In winters, when lips are dry or scaly due to chilly winds, Vaseline petroleum jelly provides an instant reprieve. Before going to bed, I prefer topping it up on lips for pink and cottony soft lips. Also, if your lips are pigmented or dark due to some harsh lip shades you can replace lipsticks with petroleum jelly for a glossy look. Doing so will not only upkeep the look but will also recuperate them.
A useful tip: Before you go to bed, gently rub your lips with a wet toothbrush, followed by gentle massage of Vaseline petroleum jelly. This will clear dead skin, cracks and pigmentation over time.
Dry skin-
You can always replace expensive body lotions with petroleum jellies. Body lotions are usually laced with many chemicals whereas petroleum jellies are nearly devoid of them. Less chemical infused products provide more good than harm to the skin. Moreover, petroleum jellies provide intense moisture, mainly required in winters.
On face-
As we age our skin gets dry and flaky. All the anti-ageing products that are available in the market contain harsh chemicals such as retinoid, alpha-hydroxyl acid, etc. Sometime the already matured skin cannot handle the effect of these chemicals, resulting in worsen skin condition. So to minimize or counter balance chemical effects we can always include petroleum jelly in our daily skin care routine such as for makeup remover or an after-wash moisturizer. This will save the skin from getting worse and make it soft and supple.
As an ointment-
The most important benefit I find of petroleum jellies is for burns, cuts or redness. Often, while working in the kitchen we get minor cuts or burns. If we immediately apply, a part of first aid, petroleum jelly on them it serves as an ointment.
So girlies, in my opinion when you can rely on a single thing why spend so much time and money in buying different creams and lotions for different purposes. When you have one solution one trusted formula (from ages) for all your problems why not go for it.
Have a happy and healthy skin without spending hefty money! Do not forget to share your tips of using a petroleum jelly.

I would recommend to stay away from this and instead opt for better and natural options made from shea butter and beeswax etc!
Prats, I have tried shea butter and beeswax products but nothing seemed to work better than petroleum jelly.. after I tried out almost everything available in the market VPJ was my last option, and luckily it did wonders !
To each his own I guess :)
You are right, beauty is personalised.. something that suits one might not suit another !
For me, the imported version of Vaseline 100% Pure Petroleum Jelly works the best. It is way better than the Indian one. The imported one is yellow in color. Somehow, the Indian one made my lips even more dry, i wonder why?
Woooow……. Thanks a lot!!
:ThankYou: Bhavani !
I love Vaseline…Havent used it on face yet but i love how it works on lips, and heels !
Yups Shivi.. even I have seen miraculous results on lips and heels !
Vaseline is really effective for heels and have used this for ages for lips.. but in last many years stopped using it as it is quite heavy and was sticky and now we have a range of products available across.
I second you on that its sticky as I have dry skin so that does not seem a con anymore ;-) might be a concern for oily skin people !
This is great..it is full of benefits
Thanks Simran !
I love vaseline! I often use it to remove makeup….though I don’t use it on face, It is an excellent cheaper option…Lovely post Babe! :)
