The antioxidant properties of vitamin C boost collagen, repair skin cells and brighten complexion. With these expectations I started using the Dermalogica Biolumin C Serum. I have used Vitamin C serums earlier as well so kind of knew how my skin will react to this. However, this serum turned to be a litte different. I am using it for last couple of weeks. Let’s see how it fares on my skin.
What the product says
A high-performance Vitamin C serum that works with skin’s own defenses to brighten and firm. Advanced bio-technology fuses ultra-stable Vitamin C and Palmitoyl Tripeptide-5, helping to dramatically reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Formulated with advanced technology to deliver more Vitamin C into skin. This superior formula outperforms other Vitamin C products (including those formulated at higher concentrations). Other key ingredients include Vitamin C Complex for brighter, firmer, more radiant skin, Lactic Acid to accelerate cell turnover, Sophora Japonica Flower Extract to help return skin to a calm state after experiencing oxidative stress, and Salvia Hispanica (Chia Seed) Oil to hydrate and help quench free radicals.
My skin type: Combination to oily
My take on ‘Dermalogica Biolumin C Serum’
As they say all good things come in small packages, this serum also comes in a cute glass bottle. It is an opaque bottle with a screw open cap and a dropper attached to it. Being made of glass, the bottle is heavy and fragile. However, since the quantity is less than 100ml it can be easily carried in handbag while air travelling.
The serum is slightly on the thicker side but thin enough to be picked and dropped by the dropper. The previous vitamin C serum I used was much thinner comparatively. Well, this does not have anything to do with efficacy, as long as the performance is good I am not concerned about anything else. Also, this one is off-white in color and almost fragrance-free (very bleak fragrance which is almost unnoticeable). Long-time back ago I used a Vitamin C serum which had really foul smell. It was so bad I stopped using it after a couple of applications. Thankfully, this one is perfectly bearable.
I use it every night after cleaning & toning but before moisturizing. Dispensing about half a dropper, I massage the serum on cleansed face and neck. The brand recommends using the serum morning and night to brighten, firm and reduce the appearance of fine.
It quickly goes into the skin leaving hydrated yet non-oily surface. I have combination acne-prone skin so when I first started using serum I was worried about the breakout but thankfully none of the serums has triggered acne yet and so is the case with this one. Immediately after the application the skin feels smooth and soft. I wake up to a glowing face every morning that does have a sign of hard cold winters of Canada. I do not see any improvement in terms of wrinkles but yes the skin texture has become healthy and even. There are no more acne scars and black spots. The skin looks well-polished, and that’s what I always ask for :)

Final Word: In this freezing cold weather, Dermalogica Biolumin C Serum is keeping my skin hydrated and bright. There are signs of flakiness even when the weather outside has gone down to -13C. It is performing nice on my acne prone skin and has even smoothed out all the stubborn scars. I would definitely recommend this serum to all skin types. However, make sure you check the ingredient list before adding it to the skincare routine.
