Hi Everyone,
I have been using this sunscreen on and off for last couple of years. Irrespective of the weather- cloudy, sunny or rainy I abide by sunscreen to shield my skin from harmful UVA/UVB rays. This summer, I have been using Avene cream religiously while staying both indoors and outdoors. Read on to know my detailed review on Avene very high protection cream.
My Skin Type: Combination to oily
My Take on ‘Eau Thermale Avene Very High Protection Cream SPF 50+’
It comes in an orange squeezable tube with a pump dispenser that has a transparent cap on it. Though the cap is little loose yet the packaging is spill-proof and travel friendly. I just need one and half pump (for half pump, do not exert full pressure on the tube: P) of this cream to cover face and neck areas.
It is white in color and has not-so-runny consistency. The texture is sort of gel like so requires some effort to spread the cream on entire face and neck areas. The trick here is to closely dot it all over your face and neck to avoid pulling the skin. Afterwards, gently connect all the dots and softly pat your skin. It has very mild medicated fragrance that is not bothersome at all; in fact the scent vanishes into the air moments after the cream is applied on to the skin.
I find this sunscreen moisturizing and slightly heavy on my combination to oily skin. But the positive side is it does not require any layering up of creams on my skin. Whenever I apply this sunscreen I skip applying the moisturizer to avoid heavy feeling, and this cream takes care of the moisture level very well. Being a sunscreen, it does make my skin look greasy and oily, but I cover that up with some dabbing of compact powder. Contrary to the ‘no white streaks’ claims, it does leave slight white cast, which can also be taken care of by applying compact powder.
Usually, it is said that if we stay outdoors often we should keep reapplying sunscreen every few hours. I do not spend more than 2-3 hours outdoors so I do not need to reapply the sunscreen but for complete protection you should reapply it every 2-3 hours, if you stay outdoors for longer duration.
What I like about ‘Eau Thermale Avene Very High Protection Cream SPF 50+’
– Protects skin from sun burns and tanning.
– It does not require you to apply a heavy moisturizer underneath.
– It comes in a hygienic and convenient packaging.
– It has mild non-bothersome fragrance.
– It does not cause any skin breakouts.
What I do not like about ‘Eau Thermale Avene Very High Protection Cream SPF 50+’
– It takes time in settling on to the skin.
– Though it claims not to leave any white streaks yet I experience the same especially when my skin sweats.
– It makes the skin look greasy and shiny.

Final Word: Irrespective of the cons, I find this cream shielding my skin from harmful sun rays. I do not mind going an extra mile to apply compact powder to dissipate streakiness and grease, especially when I know my skin is being saved from serious problems such as sun burns and tanning. The price is on the higher side but looking at the benefits and protection, I think it is worth making an investment.

Hey! A very nice review on the sun protection cream. However I would not want to try it since it will make my skin look greasy. My skin is towards oily so the cream will add more shine and greasy look to my face I guess. Good to apply on feet and hands instead. The product does not entice me to buy, but your review enticed me to appreciate your honest and detailed review. Cheers!
One of my favorite sunscreen :) Good review dear
Hey shailja,

Coming to your review, I don’t see myself buying this one as I have very oily skin and try to stay away from products that can make me sweat..
Loved your honest review

Seems like a decent product.. may try this out! Nice review
Looks like a great one inspite of it’s cons! I had love to give this one a try…Beautifully reviewed babe :)
I think this will work great for dry skin, would love to try it out :)
This one sounds really nice but do you think this will work for beach areas with very high humidity!?!
Thanks for the review . I love this sunscreen cream as it suits my skin and shows great results.
I like Avene sunscreen a lot. In Bangalore, the weather is quite dry so sometimes my skin becomes dry hours after applying sunscreen and sometimes it’s just right, depending on the humidity. I had started off using moisturizer a beneath this but had to use compact to combat the greasiness. Overall, this is one of those sunscreens that I’ve found to be actually effective. I can observe that my existing tan is dissipating and my face looks brighter after switching to Avene. The price is a let down but considering the pros and obviously being an imported product, it has to be costly, I guess.
