Healthy Recipe: Eggless Chocolate Cake Using Wholewheat Flour
Being vegetarian has its own cons. I am a pure vegetarian and I abstain from bakery made pastries, cakes, biscuits, ice creams, puddings and muffins. Whenever I go to a party or something, the moment the cake cutting ceremony starts I corner myself into the most invisible space out there just to take refuge from those unwelcome why-you-not-eating questions. Most of the baked things contain eggs, so I prefer to not to consume them. You name the most delicious bakery made item and if it contains egg it is not my cup-(of)cake ;-).
Sometimes, when I go to a bakery for an eggless cake, and ask the chef if the cake is eggless or not 90% of times his answer would be eggless. For him, it would just be a matter of selling another cake but for people like me, who are pure vegetarians, consuming an egg(y) cake is participating in a big blunder. So I stay away from bakery cakes and pastries. Simultaneously, I find it difficult to curb my inner urge for yummy chocolaty cakes, and to satiate that impulse I have learned (not mastered ;-) ) this recipe of eggless cake. With this recipe I can make eggless, healthy (whole-wheat flour) and yummy cake (chocolate & nuts).
Who says vegetarians cannot pamper their taste buds! :dancydancy: . Let’s have a look at the ingredient list and later at the recipe.
Ingredient List
- 1 cup whole-wheat flour (atta)
- 1 cup curd
- ½ cup all-purpose flour (maida)
- ½ cup vegetable cooking oil ( I am using olive oil)
- ¾ cup sugar
- 2 leveled table spoons of baking powder
- ¼ leveled table spoon of baking soda
- 4 heaped spoons of cocoa powder
- Finely chopped nuts
Recipe of Eggless Chocolate Cake Using Whole-wheat Flour
Step1: Add all-purpose flour and chopped nuts to whole-wheat flour, and mix them well. Put this mixture aside till you do rest of the preparation.
Step2: Take huge bowl; add curd, baking powder, baking soda, cooking oil, sugar and cocoa powder. Blend these ingredients very well, and keep blending until you get a smooth concoction that is free of lumps and granular particles. You can also use hand blender as that delivers better results.
Step3: Set the oven at maximum temperature and turn it on for preheating. Preheating oven is one of the most important things while baking. If you do not preheat oven to reach a particular temperature the final outcome can be hard or undercooked.
Step4: While your oven is preheating, add dry batter (whole-wheat flour + all-purpose flour+nuts) to concoction prepared in step2. Blend these ingredients well. You do not necessarily need to follow any cut & fold technique, just make sure that there are no lumps and the ingredients are well mixed.
Step5: Properly grease the baking mold; make sure that entire circumference of the mold is greased. If that would not be the case, your cake will stick to the mold and break while flipping over.
Step6: Pour the batter into pre-greased mold, and ensure that it only covers 1/4th or maximum ½ of the pan. The batter needs space to rise so the more space it has the maximum it will raise. Garnish the batter with some leftover nuts, or freshly chopped ones –your call.
Step7: Now, bake the cake at 180 C for 20 minutes. Intermittently, keep an eye on it as every oven bakes differently.
Step8: After 20 minutes, poke a toothpick or fork or knife into the center. If it comes out clean your cake is ready, otherwise bake it for 5 more minutes. After doing the fork test, let it stay in oven for 5-7 minutes.
Step9: Remove cake from the oven and cool for 10 minutes. Flip it over on to a platter. If your mold was well greased you won’t be having any hard time while flipping, otherwise run butter knife along the edges and do some soft thumping while flipping it over.
Your cake is ready. For hot serving, add some chocolate sauce and serve it. Otherwise if you like icing then let it cool down completely before you start with the icing process. Believe me, I prefer it without icing and it tastes yummier that way, and is healthier too.
