During pregnancy a woman’s body goes through a lot of hormonal changes, some of which have good effect on the skin but some changes cause havoc in terms of pigmentation and pregnancy acne. Rationally thinking, in those 9 months of unusual body changes, skin is bound to change and the irony is you cannot take medicine and apply external ointments to rectify the damage for the fear of harming the developing baby. But it is not that every woman goes through bad skin changes there are lucky ones who experience pregnancy glow as well. The glow usually starts being visible from the second trimester because of increased blood flow to all organs including facial blood veins. This increases oil secretion, keeping the skin hydrated and moisturized. You can accentuate the glow using these simple tips or even if your skin is not looking the way you want it to be these tips can help you turn things around.
Healthy Diet: Pregnancy offers its own cloud of food cravings. Some women carve for ice cream & junk food while other others develop a strong penchant for healthy food like spinach and fruits. If you are falling in the latter category then you do not need to do much to improve your diet but for the formers I would advise to start including some healthy proteins and iron rich food to your daily diet. You can always discuss with your healthcare provider the nutritious food that you should much on to. This will not only be good for your skin but also for the growing life inside you.
Facial Exercises: Exercise is one to sweat out and unclog the pores but in pregnancy women should not be indulged in arduous work. That being said, even if you cannot go the gym you can always do some light exercise or yoga at home. Consult with your health care provider about the exercises that are safe for you and the baby. Also, do facial exercises to tone facial muscles as that will tighten up the skin, giving a youthful appearance.
Fluid Intake: Usually, doctors suggest 4-5 liters of fluid intake per day during pregnancy. This involves water, fresh juices, milk and every healthy liquid, and obviously if you are sticking to this healthy intake your skin is bound to look dewy and glowing. Some women develop a craving for aerated drinks- there is no harm in imbibing aerated drinks occasionally but frequent consumption can cause acne and dullness. Also, some researches have said that aerated drinks are high in sugar content that lead to unnecessary weight gain and is not even good for the babies. So, try to stick to healthy fluid intake as that is your key to glowing skin.
Beauty Sleep: Sleep is one of the much talked about topics during pregnancy. As your belly grows you find difficulty in choosing a comfortable sleeping position. To compensate for the lack of sleep you should look for sleeping aid like a pregnancy pillow. Drinking a glass of warm milk before bed also helps in sound sleep. Lack of sleep can make your eyes swell like a lemon and diminish the freshness of your face. Thus, find the right pregnancy sleeping aids and get the beauty sleep.
Avoid Trying New Products: Amidst the numerous changes your body is going through in pregnancy, it is hard to predict how the skin will react to new products. Sick to the old trusted ones and try to make as few changes to skin care routine as possible unless the doctor says otherwise. Also, it is recommended that during pregnancy one should avoid using chemical laced products. If possible, try to switch to organic brand when you start planning for pregnancy.
Usually, the skin problems are gone after the baby is born but still 9 months is a long span if your skin is going through a rough patch. Hopefully, these tips prove useful for you.
