Hi Everyone,
In last couple of months, since my skin was all breaking out with those painful zits I rarely followed a skin care routine. I know scrubbing and exfoliation is very much required in winter to get rid of the flaky skin and dead skin cells, but even after knowing this imperative skin care step I dared not to follow it. The reason was the sudden pop up of red-head devils. However, the change in season has brought a reprieve for my acne prone skin, so I have religiously embarked upon the complete skin care cycle – most importantly my favorite part of scrubbing followed by a soothing pack. Skin pampering is a drudging experience, yet the after feeling of soft and smooth skin is a heavenly outcome. I love how skin reprieves from those blackheads, pimple scars, and invigorates into a soft supple texture.
So as to mention, I am not following any extraordinary skin care regimen, just the usual cleaning, toning, scrubbing, face pack and moisturizer. The key here is to faithfully adhere to this process in order to see expedited fruitful results. For the sake of this post I am segregating my skin care regimen to daily and weekly routines. I hope you will gain something out of them so as to adapt it in your own routines, and yield benefits.
My Skin Type: Oily to combination, acne prone.
Daily Skin Care Routine
Cleaning: Irrespective of my hectic schedule and exhaustion, I make sure that I always clean my face twice a day – morning and night. Since my skin is oily so people used to recommend me washing the face 3 or 4 times a day, but when I observed that this washing frequency was taking all the moisture off my skin I immediately went back to twice a day cleaning. Doing so removes all external impurities and provides a clean canvas to start off with next steps without pulling the moisture off it.
Toning: I believe this is another imperative step for oily skin people. It helps in mattifying the skin and removing the left over impurities of cleaning step. There are several toners available in the market for every skin problem such as for open pores, moisture balance, etc. You need to find the right toner for your requirement and start using it twice a day- morning and night after you have cleansed the face.
Moisturizing: Some people believe that oily skin does not require moisture. Well, from my personal experience I can say that this dogma is totally false. The only thing that one needs to take care of while purchasing a moisturizer is to go for the one that is specifically formulated for oily skin type. Plus, if your day moisturizer has SPF in it, you may want to invest in a good night cream as slathering SPF laced moisturizer at night is not backed up with a logical reason. After toning, wait for 1-2 minutes to let it penetrate into the skin, then apply the moisturizer. Again, do so every morning and before going to bed.
Weekly Skin Care Routine
Scrubbing: In addition to the above three steps, on weekends I prefer to scrub the skin to get rid of all the flakiness, dead skin cells, blackheads, whiteheads, etc. (in a nutshell whatever is obsolete and makes the skin appear dull). For the weekly scrub, I usually prefer to go with the one that has medium size scrub particles. In case the scrub particles are very soft and miniscule I sometimes apply it twice a week as well. Scrubbing or exfoliation unclogs pores, makes the skin breath and expedites fading of obnoxious scars only to restore a rejuvenated supple skin.
Face Pack: Though this should not exactly follow scrubbing, yet I choose applying a good face pack immediately after I scrub the face. It is because when we scrub, the pores open up, blood circulation improves, which can further help in improving the efficacy of face pack. Occasionally, when I indulge in the application of homemade fruit packs, I often skip the scrubbing part. Well, if you are depending on such organic face packs you may apply them twice a week as well. Irrespective of the frequency you adhere to, never forget to apply a moisturizer after face pack- day time moisturizer if you are applying the pack in morning and night cream if you are doing that at night.
Getting flawless skin is an easy task. It does not require that much hard work but it does require consistency. It’s been three weeks since I have started following this skin care ritual, and I am already noticing the difference. My skin feels more hydrated, pores seem to have reduced a bit and I can barely see any blackheads/whiteheads on my nose. I hope you will have similar experience when you start devoting sometime to your skin.
I would love to know what all you follow to get that glowing, envious skin.
