Usually I am a black eye liner person, yet sometimes to take a break from the usual eye makeup I like experimenting with colors. And when, I was given a choice to choose my product in January Fab Bag, I selected ‘NYX Auto Eye Pencil Sapphire’. This is also my first ‘NYX Cosmetics’ product, so I was excited to try it out. But to know if that excitement had a happy-end or not read on.
What the product says:
NYX Auto Eye Pencil takes your look to a whole new level of beautiful by emphasizing your eyes with this rich, intense, long lasting eyeliner pencil! The creamy texture of NYX Auto Eye Pencil delivers intense pigmentation while it moisturizes. It’s twist-up style eyeliner and doesn’t need to be sharpened.
– Cruelty Free.
– Lead Free.
– Retractable eye pencil.
My Take on ‘NYX Auto Eye Pencil Sapphire’
NYX auto eye pencil comes in a pen form with black outer casing, which has the shade name and ingredient list mentioned. I am happy to see the ingredients list on the eye liner as most of the cosmetic companies do not mention eyeliner’s ingredients’ on the packaging let alone the pencil/pen itself. Anyways, the cap is sturdy but does not have a fool-proof locking system so it can come out any time damaging the pencil, if it is not twisted-in completely. The bottom of the pencil is color coded with the exact shade as that of the tip. I like the attractive packaging, which looks solid, minus the loose cap.
The shade sapphire is similar to navy blue. It is a pure matte shade without any hint of glitter. I like matte shades for daily wear so this turned out to be a good option. And, moreover this is the kind of shade that can go with any look. I thickly apply it close to my upper lid and smudge the edges, and it gives a nice appealing look.
It has soft creamy texture that makes the pencil glide smoothly on the eye lids. It does not hurt the eyes or feel pokey. In two swipes it gives good color payoff, if the color payoff is not according to my expected look I put slightly extra pressure to get the desired color. The good thing is the tip is quite sturdy and does not break easily even after putting the extra pressure. If you do not want to put any pressure, you can build up the shade by swiping it multiple times.
I rarely apply colored liners on my lower lash line; I prefer eye shadows for that job as they are easy to blend and last for long on lower lash line. I use colored liners on the upper lash line or as a base for eye shadows to increase the color intensity. So when I talk about the staying power of this pencil, I mean it on the upper lash line. As I have said earlier, I apply it for a soft blue effect on my eyes so I always smudge the edges to get that look. It can stay in that state without further spreading for good 5-6 hours. But if you have to apply it just like any other eye liner it would smudge much earlier. Plus, on the lower lash line it has even lesser staying power and intactness.
What I like about ‘NYX Auto Eye Pencil Sapphire’
– Convenient retractable pencil.
– Nice matte navy blue shade.
– Smooth texture that makes it glide easily.
– Provides good color payoff.
– It does not break even if I put slight extra pressure.
– Buildable shade.
– It does not hurt or irritate the eyes.
What I do not like about ‘NYX Auto Eye Pencil Sapphire’
– The cap does not have a sound locking system.
– It smudges easily.

Final Word: If you like the soft (smudged) blue effect on your eyes or would like to intensify the shade of your favorite blue eye shadow you should give ‘NYX Auto Eye Pencil Sapphire’ a go. Its creamy formula makes it easy-to-apply without hurting or irritating the eyes, and the good color payoff and matte finish are the add-on advantages. If you want to apply it just like any other eye liner you may have to confront the smudging issue, and find out ways to make it stay intact for long hours. Thus, if you are a smokey eye lover this might be the blue shade for you.
