Hi Everyone, Today I am reviewing a hair styling product- Philips Moisture Protect Straightener. Usually, I prefer to keep hair away from heat & chemicals but when I got to know that this straightener has moisture protect sensor that does not steal the moisture from hair I was intrigued to review it. Read on to know more about the product and my experience with it.
What the product says
Preserve your hair’s natural hydration for a healthy shine. Sensor technology protects the moisture balance of your hair. The sensor diagnoses your hair 30 times per second and adapts the temperature to preserve natural hydration. It provides up to 57% more moisture preservation.
My take on ‘ Philips Moisture Protect Straightener ’
The straightener comes in a sturdy cardboard packaging along with a user manual and a black colored storage pouch. The pouch has Velcro straps at the back that are given to attach the straightener separately with a bag or a rod for hanging purpose. The outer body of the straightener is off-white in color whereas the heating plates are rose gold. It also has a closing lock, near the cord, that locks the plates when they are not in use. Once the plates get locked it becomes easy to pack the straightener neatly in the pouch.
In case, you do not want to face the hassle of taking out the straightener from the pouch every day you can hang it beside your dressing unit with the help of the hanging loop, which is provided just above the swivel cord. Plus, the cord is around 2m long that makes the handling very convenient. Even if the electric socket is away from your dressing mirror you can easily reach a mirror that is within 2m distance and also because it has a swivel end so the usage becomes even easier. Overall, I love the look and convenient design of the straightener.
The USP of this straightener is the sensor technology that diagnoses the hair 30 times per second and adapts the temperature to preserve natural hydration of hair. This helps in preventing the formation of static charge and keeps the hair smooth & frizz-free. Since it protects the moisture of hair it can be used more regularly as compared to other hair styling products. I use it 2-3 times a week after shampooing my hair and it keeps the hair tamed until the next wash. My hair is smooth and colored so I most of the times I keep the temperature setting to either 150 C or 175 C but if you have coarse hair you can use it at 200 C.
Depending on the hair type, the straightener can be used at the following three temperature settings.
– For coarse, curly hair that is hard to straighten- 200 C
– For fine, medium-textured or softly waved hair- 175 C
– For bleached or colored hair – 150 C
When the straightening plates heat up to the selected temperature, the digits stop blinking. The plates take very less time to heat up (in seconds only), and once the straightener is ready for use I start styling my hair. I have medium volume hair, and I divide them into small sections before using the straightener. For best results, it is recommended that hair sections should not be wider than 5 cm and the hair should be completely dry. When I am in a hurry I use a blow dryer to dry the hair before using the straightener.
To straighten the hair, I place a section between the straightening plates, press the handle firmly together and slide it down the length of the hair. For complete straightening effect, I have to repeat this process for 2-3 times. It takes me around 30-40 minutes to straighten all the sections. The result is totally worth the time spent as the hair looks healthy, shiny and obviously straight (as if you have taken a straightening service from the salon). Sometimes when I have to attend a party I use a shine spray to add more shine.
If you have thick and coarse hair you might need to use it for more time. The device also has an auto-shut off function that switches off the device automatically after 60 minutes. You will need to restart it by pressing the on/off button until the LED screen lights up.
I have smooth hair with an oily scalp but the good thing is it does not weigh down the hair and neither have I seen any harmful effect on the quality of my hair since I have started using it. Overall, I find myself using it more frequently than I imagined, and I am happy the way it makes my hair looks.

Final Word: Based on moisture protect technology, Philips straightener is a safe hair styling product. It protects hair’s natural hydration and makes the hair smooth. Since the floating plates move to adjust the pressure on hair this reduces the possibility of hair breakage. For those who do not have much time to style the hair, this device will be of great use as it heats up instantly and provides efficient results in much less time. Useful review. Looks like an implement I’d like to have although my hair is very straight but I could use it for making loose wave like ringlets. I love those.
That’s also a nice idea, even I love loose waves. It can be used to make light ringlets as well.
Wow, it looks so sleek and beautiful. Glad to hear that its a hair-friendly styling tool.
Yes, the moisture protect sensor technology is beneficial for hair.
