After ‘Matte as hell’ crayon lipsticks, Sugar Cosmetics has launched a new range of vivid lipsticks. These lipsticks come in retractable packaging that does not require sharpening. The range is composed of four shades, and I will review just one of them today. The lipstick I am going to review is breaking bare; let’s see how I find this shade from vivid lipstick new launch.
What the product says
Creamy and moisturizing, SUGAR It’s A-Pout Time! Vivid Lipstick combines the look of a classic matte lip with the benefit of incredible comfort. Enriched with micronized pigments and silica micro-beads, this matte lipstick glides on easily and settles to a gorgeous matte finish. FDA approved, this lipstick is free of mineral oil and parabens.
SUGAR It’s A-Pout Time Vivid Lipstick has a creamy consistency that moisturizes and spreads evenly on the lips. Available in 4 stunning shades that are highly pigmented and light-weight, it provides maximum coverage in just a few swipes.
My Take on ‘Sugar Cosmetics It’s A Pout Time! Vivid Lipstick Breaking Bare’
It comes in black carton case that bears the shade name, ingredient list, price of the lipstick and other manufacturing details. Inside the case, there is this pure black rectangular tube with matte surface that has nothing mentioned on it but the brand name and shade details in chalky white. The sturdy plastic and bold look of this packaging make it stand apart from other lipsticks on my shelf. The only drawback with this packaging is the absence of shade indicator, owing to that if I have more than 1 shades of this range I won’t be able to spot the shade I want to wear from a distance. But it’s not so severe a con that cannot be dealt with. The tube contains a flat tip bullet in skewed oval shape making it easier to outline the lips.
Breaking bare is dusty pink shade. The three other shades are big bang berry, mad magenta and Caroline in the city. Of all these shades, I like breaking bare the most as it is quite a girly shade that would suit all skin tones. It is a mix of innocence and elegance, and would be a nice option for every occasion – from causal to party and day to night.
It has creamy texture but unlike creamy lipsticks it does not easily cross the boundaries or settles into fine lines. Also, this variation in texture makes it stay intact for long hours without a mandatory need of lip liner. I prefer this type of consistency to rich-creamy (or overly moisturizing) as it makes the lipstick easy to apply and last long without touchups. The finish is matte but not very drying. For the initial couple of minutes it gives a satiny look with slight sheen, gradually the sheen fades away giving a true matte look. In fact, the matte finish feels moisturizing and comfortable. This vivid lipstick is a rare combination of creamy texture and matte finish, and I like the feel of it on my lips.
In one swipe it gives pretty good coverage. Normally, you won’t require multiple swipes with this lipstick unless it is getting applied on pigmented lips. It feels light and easy to carry all day long without stickiness or awkward heavy feel.
For lasting power, it stays for good 6.5-7 hours with intermittent meals and snacking. During the span it is on lips, it does not settle into fine line or makes the lips dry. Even when it fades, it fades evenly leaving visbile hue of the lipstick behind. It feels comfortable to wear and gives nice matte finish. Plus, being matte it does not easily get transferred to food or to the brims of cups.
