Hi Everyone,
‘The Body Shop’ is one of my favorite skin care brands. I have been using their products for quite long mainly as they contain fewer chemicals and are not tested on animals. At least, I feel satisfied that if I cannot do much good for those cute laboratory animals I am not promoting evil either. I try to abstain from such brands that prey these salves to test their chemically laced products.
Now, coming to Today’s post, I purchased ‘The Body Shop Seaweed Mattifying Day Cream’ a couple of months back, somehow did not get time to review it. So, Today the first thing that I am doing is writing its review for you – might help you in taking a better decision ;-)
Over to TBS
This oil-free, gel-like moisture cream is easily absorbed and perfect for combination skin.
- Moisturizes dry areas.
- Balances excess sebum.
- Gives a matte, shine-free complexion.
My Take on ‘The Body Shop Seaweed Mattifying Day Cream’
TBS seaweed mattifying day cream comes in a tub packaging. If given a choice I would have preferred a tube over tub as tub packaging is unhygienic and has a risk of contamination. The cream is off-white in color, and has non-oily gel based texture. This texture is neither too runny nor too thick. It is just the apt texture that is required to massage your face without hurting it or pressing it too hard. Because of this consistency, it glides on to the skin super smoothly (as if you are rolling the ball on an ice hockey ground, I really mean it :dancy_s: ) and evenly. It also has a very pleasant fragrance, which is mild but non-fruity like.
I have combination skin– normal on the sides with an oily T zone, and this was the main reason that urged me to purchase this day cream. Now, I have been using it for over 2 months. I apply this cream once a day – in the morning. Just a pea size dollop is enough to cover face and neck area. After spreading the cream, I massage it for a couple of seconds and leave it on. It takes around 30-40 seconds to get completely absorbed into the skin. Immediately after its absorbed, my skin feels soft and smooth but after a couple of hours it re-bounces to its original softness (that unfortunately is not too soft).
Coming to the efficacy part, the primary claim of this cream is that it provides a matte, shine-free complexion. I won’t say this claim is 100% justified but it does provide short relief from shine and greasiness. After around 3 hours of application the usual shine resurfaces giving a non-matte greasy look. On a good note, it keeps my skin hydrated and moisturized for whole day.
The main con about this cream is that it does not contain SPF. So to save my skin from harmful UVA and UVB rays I top it up with Vichy SPF 50 cream, which luckily is also a mattifying cream. But in case you do not apply a matte SPF cream then the matte effect (of TBS Seaweed cream) that otherwise stays on for 2-3 hours won’t be able to last even that long.
What I like about ‘The Body Shop Seaweed Mattifying Day Cream’
– Light gel based texture that spreads easily and evenly.
– Quickly absorbs into the skin.
– Keeps skin hydrated and moisturized.
– Keeps my skin non sticky.
– Pleasant mild fragrance that does not linger on for long.
– Does not require much quantity for face and neck.
– Does not cause any skin breakouts.
What I do not like about ‘The Body Shop Seaweed Mattifying Day Cream’
– Does not have SPF.
– Price might be a concern area for some.
– Controls shine but only to an extent. After a couple of hours my face bounces back to its regular shining aura.
Price of ‘The Body Shop Seaweed Mattifying Day Cream’: INR 995 for 50 ml
Online Availibility:The Body Shop Seaweed Day Cream from Flipkart.com
Shelf life of ‘The Body Shop Seaweed Mattifying Day Cream’: Around 31 months from date of manufacturing.
BABE Rating: 3/5
Final Word: Summing it all up, I feel this cream does an ordinary job of moisturizing. Yes, it controls shine but only for a couple of hours. The texture is what I like the most about this cream but I do not think that it is viable to pay such a huge amount just for the texture and moisture.

seems to be a nice product for combination to dry skin people. Not for me especially during day times and summer.
